VIDEO | MFT Butterflies In Bloom

Hello there, I am delighted to be over on the My Favorite Things YouTube channel today, sharing a card using the Butterflies & Blooms set from the August 2023 release, which was out yesterday. This is such a pretty set that would be perfect for colouring but I decided to heat emboss the butterflies on vellum instead.

I started off by stamping two of the butterflies from the MFT Butterflies & Blooms Stamp Set onto MFT Heavyweight Translucent Vellum using Versamark Ink. I applied white embossing powder and heat set. They were then die cut using the coordinating MFT Butterflies & Blooms Die-namics

I secured the MFT Watercolor Wash Free Form Stencil to a US A2 sized panel of white cardstock at the top, to create a hinge. Using the stencil as a mask, I stamped the butterfly trails from the set on top with more Versamark Ink. I lifted the stencil up, applied white embossing powder and heat set.

The stencil was then placed down again and secured with more tape. Using ink blending brushes, I added ink inside the shape to create a night sky. I used (bottom to top) Mermaid Lagoon, Prize Ribbon and Wilted Violet Distress Inks. I removed any excess ink on top of the embossing with a cloth and then splattered on Tseukineko Sparkle Sheer Shimmer Spritz

The mask was removed and the panel set aside to dry. Once dry, it was adhered to an A2 sized white card base with tape runner adhesive. The butterflies were adhered on top using liquid glue, just to the centres of their bodies. I heat embossed a sentiment from the set onto black cardstock, cut it into a strip and adhered it to the card with thin foam tape.

  1. Absolutely gorgeous Michelle, the stencil works perfectly for a night sky. I love all the added shimmer and the detail of the butterflies stands out so well because of the vellum. Such a beautiful card! xx
