Hero Arts September 2020 My Monthly Hero Release Blog Hop + Giveaway

Hello there and welcome as we celebrate the release of the Hero Arts September 2020 My Monthly Hero Kit and add-ons. This month, there is a wonderful autumn harvest and Halloween feel to it. I went with Halloween projects today, but this kit can definitely be used for more general autumn projects too.

If you are following along in the hop, you should have arrived here from Mariana, but if you get lost along the way, I have the full list of participants below.

For my first project, I thought it would be fun to use non-traditional pumpkin colours. I love the colour purple and I always find that purple works well for Halloween cards, so that is what I went with for the pumpkins.

I started off by taking a panel of Dove White Cardstock and stamping the pumpkins from the HeroScape stamp set (in the kit) on top. I used Soft Granite Shadow Ink for the base layer (I had previously tried it in Cup O'Joe ink and so there is some residual brown ink transfer but I think that looks ok), followed by Intens-ified Black Ink for the next most solid layer and then Soft Lilac Shadow Ink for the top layer.

There is another layer (a solid one for the pumpkins) but I liked it with some white space left. Because of the order that I stamped the layers in, the purple shade has gone over the black shade slightly, since the card is a night sky/Halloween card, I think it looks ok but for my second project, I stamped the pumpkin colour first and I think it does work better.

I then cut the smallest of the circle dies from the Cloudy Sky Scene Dies from mask paper and added that in to the sky for the moon. I ink blended the sky using Blue Hawaii, Grape Slush and Thistle Reactive Inks, followed by Intens-ified Black Ink. The moon mask was removed and I blended that with more Thistle Reactive Ink.

I stamped the bats from the Color Layering Moonlit Night Sky Stamp Set using Intens-ified Black Ink and then stamped the sentiment, from the accompanying stamp set in the kit, using Clear Embossing & Watermark Ink and embossed with Detail White Embossing Powder. I splattered the panel using White Iridescent Shimmer Spray and adhered it on a top folding A2 card base with foam tape.

For my next project, I thought I would keep the same kind of design but this time use more traditional colours for the pumpkins. This time I used Cup O'Joe Mid-Tone Shadow Ink for the base layer, Creamsicle Reactive Ink for the pumpkins and Intens-ified Black Ink for the outlines/second base layer. Again, I did not use the solid pumpkin layer for this as I like the white highlights.

After stamping, I cut the panel using a Tag Infinity Die. I then blended the sky using Creamsicle Reactive Ink, Just Rust Mid-Tone Shadow Ink and Intens-ified Black Ink. I then sprayed it with Tim Holtz Picket Fence Spray Stain, followed by White Iridescent Shimmer Spray. Once dry, I stamped the same bats as on the card, using Intens-ified Black Ink. The sentiment, from the accompanying main kit stamp set, was stamped on to Pitch Black Cardstock using Clear Embossing & Watermark Ink and embossed using Detail White Embossing Powder. It was cut in to strips and added to the tag with foam tape. To finish off, I added twine through the top of the tag.
