VIDEO | Faux Watercolour Stamping with Arteza TwiMarkers

Hello there, today I have a card and tag to share with you using the faux watercolour stamping technique. Arteza kindly sent me their 48 pack of Sketch Twimarkers and I thought this technique would work really well with them.

The pens themselves are a dual ended water soluble ink pen. One end has a felt brush tip, the other a plastic fine-liner tip. The pens come in a pack of either 48 or 100. The 48 pack retails in the UK for £30.99 or in the US for $33.89. There is a good colour selection in the pack - lots of yellows and oranges, as well as pinks and a few reds. There are some lovely greens, turquoises and blues and a few purples. Although there a couple of greys and browns, this set is lacking in neutral tones, however, the 100 set does make up for this.

The pens are very versatile; they can be used for general writing, bullet journaling, brush lettering/calligraphy and colouring (however, I would say that their Real Brush Pens work better for this) but I wanted to try them in a different way today, and use their water soluble property to my advantage.

I started off my projects by taking the Hero Arts Hand Drawn Snowflakes Bold Prints and adding this into my MISTI. Taking three colours of the Arteza Sketch Twimarkers, I drew on the stamp adding the colour randomly across the whole stamp. I used Cerulean, Royal Purple and Burgundy, as I thought these colours would work well together.

I misted the stamp with water and then stamped it down on to Arteza Expert Watercolor Paper. I got a bright, bold impression on the snowflakes. I didn't want to waste the rest of the ink on the stamp, so I misted it again with water and stamped it again on more watercolour paper. This gave me a second generation of stamping and gave a lighter look, but the colours were still nice and vibrant.

Once the pieces were dry, I took the second generation stamping piece and stamped the sentiment from the Hero Arts Winter Holiday Messages Stamp Set on top with black ink. I then adhered it flat to an A2 white card base with tape runner. I simply finished off the card with some Lucy's Cards Iridescent Jewels in the centres of the large snowflakes.

For the first generation stamping piece, I die cut the panel using the Hero Arts Tag Fancy Die. I took the sentiment from the Hero Arts Color Layering Snowy Tree Stamp Set and stamped this on to Pitch Black Cardstock with Clear Embossing & Watermark Ink. I applied white embossing powder and heat set, this was cut in to a strip and added to the card with foam tape. To finish off, I added twine through the top.

In conclusion, I really do like the Arteza Sketch TwiMarkers. I think they are great value for money. I like that I can use them for different techniques and the 48 set does have a pretty good colour selection. They do blend with water for colouring (as you can see in my swatch photo above) but I do not think they blend as well as the Arteza Real Brush Pens. If you were looking to use them purely for colouring, I would go with the Real Brush Pens rather than these, but as with all water based ink, the paper that you use does make a difference in the results that you will achieve.

  3. Loved your video Michelle and I think the markers worked brilliantly for this technique. The second generation stamping still has enough depth to be really pretty and I love the colours you chose. Beautiful projects 💕💕💕
