Watercolour Sunflower

Hello there, today I have something a little different to share with you. For my mum's birthday on Tuesday, I decided to paint a sunflower using watercolour paints. Of course, I made the painting in to a card!

I started off with a piece of Arches 140lb Hot Pressed watercolour paper and taped this to a board to stop some of the warping from the water. I then found a photo/picture online of a sunflower and butterfly. I used this as inspiration and sketched it on to the watercolour paper with watercolour pencils. I then painted the image with Winsor & Newton watercolour paints.

Once dry, I added a little clear Wink of Stella to the centre of the sunflower. The piece was cut down to fit on to an A2 card base. The sentiment, from the LF Scripty Sayings stamp set, was stamped in Versamrk on to a piece of vellum and heat set with WOW! Bright White Embossing Powder. This was cut in to a strip and wrapped around the watercolour piece. This was added to the card base with ATG. I then took an MFT Rectangle Frame die, cut this from white cardstock and added it on to the card with foam tape.

WATERCOLOURS: I apologise that I didn't end up writing all the colours down but here is what I know ... Sunflower Head: Cadmium Yellow Pale, Gamboge, Yellow Ochre, Raw Umber, Sepia, Sepia + Paynes Grey. Stem: Gamboge + Cerulean Blue, Sap Green, Hooker's Green + Burnt Umber. Butterfly: Lamp Black, Cadmium Orange, Raw Siena. Background: Cerulean Blue, Cobalt Blue, Phthalo Blue.

I wasn't completely happy with the background but my mum liked it, so that's all that matters! Thank you so much for visiting me today. I hope you have a great day!
