Back To Basics: Patterned Paper

Hello there, today in my Back To Basics series I am talking about patterned paper. I am probably not that qualified to talk about patterned paper since I do not use it that much. I do love it though and I guess using it as part of clean and simple cards is more of a challenge so I hope it helps some of you.

FAVOURITE COMPANIES
The paper companies that I tend to lean towards the most are Echo Park, My Mind's Eye, Doodlebug Designs and more recently, Lawn Fawn. I do have papers by other brands but these are the ones that I am more likely to use or go to first. All of these companies, use bolder, brighter and possibly more busier patterns which I don't tend to use that much however on the back of these papers (if they are double sided), there is usually a more subtle tone on tone paper which I do like. My favourite patterns are more graphic type patterns like dots and stripes.

HOW I USE THE PAPERS
I do not tend to use the papers as layers on my cards; I do occasionally but not that much. If you are interested in getting inspiration doing this, then pop over to Inge Groot's Blog. She is amazing at combining layers!

I use papers more as an accent on my cards. I like combining stamped images with paper, using the paper as a focal point (instead of an image) or also as die cut pieces. Here are some examples of cards I have made using patterned papers: (you can click on the images to make them bigger)

Here is the video where I show the paper pads I like and also some more card examples up close ...

Unfortunately, I will not be linking the paper pads as a couple of them I mentioned have retired and are a little more difficult to get hold of (especially in the UK). I hope you understand this but can still take some inspiration and ideas from the ones I mentioned. Saying that , however, I do get the majority of my paper pads from either Dies to Die for or The Glitter Pot.

I hope that some of you have found this helpful or interesting. Please let me know your thoughts. I will be back this afternoon with another example of using Patterned Paper in a CAS way for a Clearly Besotted Sneak Peek. Hope you can join me then.
