Created From Color - One Colour Shading

Here is another piece of homework I have done for my copic colouring class. The homework was to colour the image ©Kristy Dalman using only one colour copic - one for each part of the image. The class was to show the versitility of copic markers, that even if you don't have loads of shades of colours you can still create depth of colour. Here is my effort:

The only thing I don't like about the technique is that you do not get much of a smooth blend, the lines are harsher. What do you think? Do you use this technique?

Thanks for visiting today,

  1. Your colouring looks so good Michelle. I have to admit my box of copics haven't been opened in a while. I'm really not good at colouring...I am always in awe of those who colour so beautifully. One day I'll be brave and get them out for another play!

  3. I think it's awesome. One thing I find about Copics is that to be really effective in shading you need significant contrast, which is really hard to achieve along with smooth blending, especially in the small spaces that stampers usually have in their images. I'm amazed at the different depths of colours you've achieved with these 3 colours. Great job!

  4. Your colouring looks fabulous Michelle. I have never tried this technique, unfortunately I don't have any Copics and I'm not sure if Promakers layer up or blend so well.

  7. Hi Michelle, I totally agree, I always use a minimum of two colours and even four sometimes ~ depending on the size of the area I am colouring ~ great idea to do a colouring course though. Love Bev xx

  9. I actually like this technique, it gives the coloured image a "watercolour look". I especially like how you have added detail to the face:)

  10. I think you did a lovely job with this challenge. I don't have any copics, so I'm probably not a real critic. LOL I enjoy water coloring with my SU dye based reinkers and I dabble a bit with my Bic Mark it's and TH's alcohol blending solution, and a little coloring with Crayola washable markers. But I marvel at the copic artists, like you. ;)

  12. This is fab Michelle! I know what you mean about the blending but sometimes I use too many pens and blend so much you can barely see a difference! I think I'll try his way!

    Love Beth

P.S. I've just made a Papertrey order and totally blame you for my now pitiful bank balance!! ;-) xx
