Full Steam Ahead

Hello there, my nephew turned two this week. I bought him a train set for his birthday, so I thought it made sense to coordinate his card and make one with a train on. I pulled out my Clearly Besotted Full Steam Ahead stamp set (the original set that I used is now retired but the 2nd and 3rd editions are still available) and dies.

I started off by stamping the train and carriages using MFT inks. These were then cut out using the matching dies. I also stamped and cut the number 2 for the train, as well as the little smoke clouds. I then die cut two SSS Stitched Rectangle dies from white cardstock. I kept one intact and the other I cut using one of the ME landscape Trio dies. I took the cloud die from the same trio set and cut this from masking paper.

I added the masking paper cloud on top of the rectangle piece and blended TH Tumbled Glass Distress Ink over to make a sky. I then took the landscape piece and blended over TH Twisted Citron and Mowed Lawn inks over. I then stamped the train track on to this using brown ink. The sentiment, from the CB Wild Thing stamp set, was stamped on to the sky piece with black ink. I then layered everything up, adding the train with foam tape. The panel was then added to a white A2 side fold card base.

Please Note - The Full Steam Ahead stamp set has retired. I have linked to the second and third editions for you to look at.

Funnily enough, I made my other nephew a train card when he was two as well. It is obviously the age for trains! :) Thanks so much for visiting me today. I hope you have a great rest of the weekend!

Watercolour Two Ways

Hello there, today I have the honour of participating in The Ton's Summer 2016 Release Blog Hop. If you are following the hop, you should have arrived here from the amazing Kymona Tracey, but I have a full list of participants below in case you get lost :)

Today I am using two gorgeous new floral stamp sets - Graceful Rose and Lucy Tulip. I thought these would look pretty coloured with watercolours. I decided to make one card using loose watercolour and one more controlled with the no-line technique.

My first card uses the new Graceful Rose set. I took a piece of cold pressed watercolour paper and stamped the rose on top using Versamrk ink. I then coated this with WOW! Bright White embossing powder and heat set it. I added the piece to a board and coloured it with Peerless Watercolours. I went with more of a loose technique using wet-on-wet. This leaves the water to do the blending.

I cut the panel down slightly and then stamped the sentiment from the same set on top using Archival ink (this goes over set embossing powder without a problem). I took a piece of SSS Island Blue cardstock and made this in to an A2 card base. I added a strip of black cardstock to one side and then adhered the image panel on top with foam tape. To finish off, I added sequins from the Ton's Evening Shoot Couture Mix.

If you would like to see how I painted the image, using Peerless watercolours, I made a speed paint video:

PEERLESS WATERCOLOURS: Butterfly Wing Blue, Turquoise Blue, Grass Green, Dark Green, Peacock Blue.

My second card uses the beautiful Lucky Tulip set. I took another piece of watercolour paper and stamped the tulip on to this with TH Antique Linen Distress Ink. For this image, I went with more of a controlled watercolour.

I used Winsor & Newton Professional Tube Watercolours and I did wet on dry. At times, my paintbrush was very dry so that I could control where the colour went. Once the image was dry, I enhanced the colour using Polychromos pencils.

The panel was then cut using the largest of the SSS Stitched Rectangle dies. The sentiment, from the Graceful Rose set, was stamped on to more watercolour paper (just so that the papers matched) and then cut out. The image panel was adhered to a white A2 card base with ATG and then the sentiment piece with foam tape. To finish off, I added sequins again from the Evening Shoot Couture Mix.

I also have a speed paint of me colouring the tulip:
