Using Ornate Frames In A Clean & Simple Way

Hello there, today I am using the November 2017 Spellbinders Large Die Of The Month Club Kit. It is called Holiday Frame and it is so pretty. I love the frames in the kit and I thought it would be nice to show that although they are quite ornate in style, you can still use them in a clean and simple way, if you wanted to.

My first card uses the circle shape frame. I created a background using alcohol inks on Yupo paper. I used Honeycomb, Peach Bellini and Valenia to get an ombre look. The piece was then die cut. I also cut a second piece from white cardstock. I took the sentiment from the Mama Elephant Scripty Birthday Stamp Set and stamped this with Versamark Ink on to the centre of the die cut. I applied white embossing powder and heat set.

The Yupo piece was adhered to the white cardstock piece for extra stability and then I added foam tape to the back. I added score lines to a white 5 x 5" card base (sadly they do not show up in the photo but they do add a little extra something to the finished card in real life) and then added the die cut on top. To finish off, I added a few jewels.

My second card uses the larger of the frames. For this one, I went with shades of blues and purples for the alcohol ink background.

I used Aqua, Sailboat Blue, Indigo and Purple Twlight. I die cut the frame from the piece and then die cut the frame a further three times from white cardstock. These were layered up with Multi Medium Matte glue.

I adhered the frame piece on to a white 6" x 4" white card base. I then took the sentiments from the Mama Elephant Many Thanks Stamp Set and stamped these on to black cardstock with Versamark Ink. I applied white embossing powder and heat set. These were added to the card with foam tape. To finish off, I added a few jewels.

The frames cut beautifully using the Spellbinders Platinum 6 Die Cutting & Embossing Machine, which Spellbinders kindly sent me to try out. I love it so far. It is a wonderful machine! 2. Do you know, I always look at those and totally dismiss them as not being my style, too fussy, seeing them used with a tonne of other stuff on cards etc, but you just made them CAS and beautiful. The blue one in particular I would have totally dismissed, but it's the one that attracts me. I've seen their die cutting machine, so I'm glad it's working well for you. xx
